'Watt' a journey for Bryan Lynch Salads

Bryan Lynch Salads in award-winning food production company that specialises in delicious salads and scrumptious sauces, based in Ardee, Co. Louth.

With over 10 delicious salads in our 2 for €5 range and selection of flavoured mayonnaise - production costs are starting to stabilise with thanks to changes we’ve made over the last 18 months.

“We have fridges and cooling units running here 24/7 and turning them off is not an option. We’ve absorbed so many price hikes in the past and we got to the stage where we had to do something major to reduce production costs”

said Bryan Lynch, Managing Director.

Last year we were looking at running costs of over €6,000 for a 27-day period, in comparison to €3,700 for a 56-day window in previous months.  And that’s just one bill.

In January 2023, Lennon Solar visited us at our 9,000 SQ. ft. premises in Ardee to chat about the installation of solar panels on our building and talked us through the process from end-to-end. Bryan said “The lads in Lennon Solar were great. It was a no-brainer to go ahead with the installation.”

The installation of the solar panels took 2 days and we were able to continue with production during this time. Since installing the solar panels we’ve seen a decrease in our running costs however, we’ve taken other measures too to bring costs down.

Not only did we install solar panels to keep the costs of production and running the business down, but we also installed a brand-new refrigeration system and water-cooling system so that water flows through our taps at 5°C, in comparison to 20°C which it was beforehand. This is a game-changer in our production area.

We’re upgraded all our lighting to LED lighting and our packaging for salads so that it’s reusable and 100% recyclable. These adjustments combined have been a major advance for us!

We have looked at the option of introducing electric vehicles to our fleet of vans but given that they don’t have the charge to run the refrigeration units and the milage we’ve put it on pause for now. We hope in the coming years that there will be vehicles available that will help us deliver our products in an eco-friendlier way.

You’ll find our products in selected SuperValu, Centra, Londis, Cost Cutter, MACE, Spar & Eurospar stores.
